Earning seven of a possible eight points on the first weekend of play, the Kamloops Vibe sit in first place.
Seven of the eight teams in the league played at least once at the World Girls Hockey Weekend event, staged Oct. 4-6 at the Surrey Sports and Leisure Centre.
The Vibe overcame a 4-0 deficit to tie the Victoria Phantoms 4-4 on Friday, then won their remaining three games by a 17-5 aggregate. Taylor McLeod and Rochelle Smith tallied four times each for Kamloops, with Jenna Ormondy scoring three times and Alyssa Reid and Sarah Kurzac notching two each.
Alissa Hibbert had the lone shutout of the weekend, backstopping the Vibe to a 5-0 win over the Trinity Western University Titans Saturday morning.
The Phantoms also played four times in Week One, winning one and tying one. The win came Saturday morning, a 5-2 decision over Trinity Western University (TWU). Hayley Voytechek netted a pair of goals for Victoria, and finished the weekend with seven goals in four games played.
Pam Lou-Poy contributed three goals and an assist for the Phantoms, who lost 5-3 to the Meadow Ridge Moose Saturday afternoon and fell 5-1 to the Vibe Sunday morning.
For the Moose, it was a victory in their first-ever SCFAHL game. Emily McGrath with a goal and two assists paced Meadow Ridge.
South Fraser TNT also played their first-ever game Saturday, but gave up five second period goals in a 7-4 loss to Kamloops. Natalie May had two goals for the TNT.
