Week 7: Moose, Vibe remain unbeaten

SCFAHL

The first-year Meadow Ridge Moose continue to chase the defending champion Kamloops Vibe for first place.
Both teams won twice in Week Seven, and remain unbeaten while just a point apart atop the standings.
The Moose edged the third-place Richmond Devils 3-2 Saturday night in Richmond, despite getting outshot 23-12. Kendall Boone scored for the Devils early in the second period to give the home team a 1-0 lead. But goals by Madison Sands, Vanessa Leuszler and Breanna Josephison vaulted the Moose to a 3-1 lead.
Richmond fired 14 shots at the Moose goal in the final period, but only Jane Gregory-Herbold managed to get a puck past Paige Clark in the Meadow Ridge goal. Clark stopped 21 of 23 shots for her fifth win in as many starts.
The Moose got past the Delta Jets 2-1 Sunday night in Maple Ridge. Jade Werger in the first period and Renee Lemieux in the second were the Meadow Ridge goal scorers, while Tamara Jaksa netted the Jets goal with 10 minutes to play.
Moose netminder Alexandra Frisk stopped all but one of 30 shots she faced, while Olivia Hutchison blocked 30 of 32 shots in the Delta goal.
Meadow Ridge improved to 9-0-0 on the season, but still trailed the Kamloops Vibe by one point. The 9-0-1 Vibe topped Simon Fraser University in a pair of games in Kamloops.
Olivia Merritt, Alana Parker, Shelby Easton and Taylor McLeod tallied for Kamloops in a 4-2 Saturday, with Katrina Armstrong scoring both goals for SFU.
Parker, Melinda Smith, Emily Edmundson, Rochelle Smith and Desiree Blair notched one each in Sunday's 5-0 win by the Vibe, with Ashley Fisher making a dozen saves for her league-leading third shutout of the season.
Two games were also played on Vancouver Island, where the Victoria Phantoms and Trinity Western University Titans each won once.
The Phantoms rolled to a 7-1 win Friday night in the Bear Mountain Arena, getting three goals and two assists from Pam Lou-Poy, and two goals and a pair of helpers from Hayley Voytechek. Alisha Choy and Cheryl Rempel scored once each for Victoria, with Sara Boehringer replying for the Titans.
In Sunday's rematch in Esquimalt, Emma Nelson scored her second goal of the game with 1:35 to play to lift TWU to a 5-4 victory. Ritu Grewal, Aleisha Dusterhoft and Karli Friesen also scored for Trinity Western.
The Phantoms fell behind 3-0 after one period, but began a rally late in the second period. Voytechek and Taylor Doonan scored 20 seconds apart late in the second to get the Phantoms close at 3-2, then after TWU went up 4-2, Voytechek netted her second and third goals of the game in the last five minutes to briefly tie the game 4-4.
