Week 9: Winless road trip for Vibe

Week 9: Winless road trip for Vibe

SCFAHL

The Kamloops Vibe remain in second place after they went winless on a three-game trip to the Lower Mainland in Week 9.
The Vibe played Simon Fraser University to a 2-2 tie Friday night in North Surrey, had another draw Saturday afternoon in a 1-1 decision with the South Fraser TNT, then lost their first game of the season Saturday evening, falling 2-0 to the Richmond Devils.
The Vibe had a 2-0 lead over SFU Friday on goals by Melinda Smith in the first period and Chelsea Schmietenknop in the second. Michela Deluca got the first SFU goal with 98 seconds left in the second period, then Jennifer Mathieson tied the game with 3:41 to play.
In North Delta Saturday afternoon, it was the Vibe who battled from behind. Cathy Hambly put the TNT ahead with three minutes left in the first period. Rochelle Smith pulled Kamloops even with a powerplay goal with seven minutes to play.
Both goalies played well. Ashley Fisher made 33 saves on 34 shots in the Kamloops net, while Brittney Kwasney stopped 21 of 22 shots in the South Fraser goal.
The Devils blanked the Vibe Saturday night, with Alex Yallouz scoring the winner late in the second period. Nicole Lim added an insurance goal early in the third. Renee Romain stopped 20 shots in the Richmond goal for her first shutout of the season.
The only other game played in Week 9 was also a draw, a 1-1 tie between the Delta Jets and SFU Sunday afternoon in North Delta.
Ashley Decosse gave the Jets a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the game, a lead that stood up until Nancy La Chimea replied for SFU with nine minutes remaining. Sabrina Mathias was a standout in the SFU goal, making 33 saves.
Kassandra Johnston stopped 14 of 15 shots in the Jets net.
